Horses

  • I started taking photos of horses about 7 years ago. At the beginning I was only following an impulse- there was no plan, no specific purpose, nothing to guide me, to give me a direction. Eventually I realized that I was subconsciously following the echoes of some horse paintings I loved as a kid, like Salvatore Dali’s “The temptation of Saint Anthony” or Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica” , all meddled with some horse stories I have been told by my grandfather, who used to bread horses a long time before I was born. In my photography the horse is not a “beautiful animal”. It is a rebel, a symbol of power, a mystical instrument, a creature that defines its own environment. And above all, a silent martyr of the human history through the ages.
