Étant

Photos and texts :© Eduardo Ruigómez

Formally inspired in the works of Marcel Duchamp, Étant Donnés, the Étant series shows broken black figures (obtained from normal photos forced to almost complete blackness), cut up and superimposed in out of context settings.

Outside of the formal aspect there are no more references to the works of Duchamp, only perhaps the halo of the unfathomable.

The sought after result suggests the aura of a sublime environment in which we find ourselves sometimes: secluded in ourselves, contemplative, abandoned in the dispersal of our sensations, fragile liquids that blindly explore the light of the rites of loneliness and narcissism, of nothingness and being. Perhaps we will attain, as a result of observing these photographs, learning as a reflex of ourselves, detached from all earthly burdens.

The five plus one photos the Étant series consists of project this halo of magic rite that accompanies the sublime. The photographic camera acts as a gloomy walkway that allows the voyeur to penetrate in an intimate space without being seen. Like Tom the tailor seeing through a hole in the blinds how Lady Godiva rides her horse naked through the streets of the city.
